The Riverside State Park foundation accomplished the following activities during 2021:

  • Foundation directors helped park rangers on the First Day Hikes.
  • We continued to offer Passes for Programs to support youth organizations. They can apply for Discover Passes for vans to transport young people to visit Riverside State Park.
  • Our website and Facebook presence were updated throughout the year noting park and foundation activities.
  • The foundation continued to raise funds through the sale of our Riverside State Park Trail Maps. They are sold at park headquarters and through local businesses. We promote the maps through our website and on Facebook.
  • We held six Wednesday in the Woods events at the park this summer to educate the public. Presenters were from the foundation, Riverside State Park, West Valley Outdoor Learning Center, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Inland Northwest Nature Connection, Spokane Riverkeepers, the Washington Trails Association, and the Back Country Horsemen of Washington.
  • A $400 contribution from Fairwood Animal Hospital was used to buy dog leashes for park users.
  • We donated $200 to the Spokane Riverkeepers in support of their Annual Wild & Scenic River Film Festival.
  • $700 was contributed to help pay for a new planer used by AmeriCorps volunteers to refinish the wood on park tables.
  • The foundation donated 30 Discover day passes for the Vaccination Clinic at the park this summer. Food and entertainment were provided by area immigrant communities.
  • The park drilled a much-needed well at the Seven Mile airstrip in 2020. A spigot and water fountain have just been installed and partially paid for with a $3,000 grant from Spokane’s Rotary 21. Additionally, the foundation has raised more than $17,000 toward a CXT at the airstrip site. Contributions included $3,000 from Gino Lisiecki, $1,500 from the Evergreen Bicycle Alliance, and $952 from REI.
  • An RSPF informational brochure (rack card) was completed for distribution to the public.
  • The foundation is preparing for a new fundraising activity to replace our annual Zombie Hike. The Poker Hike/Ride is planned for June 2022 at the Seven Mile airstrip.  Hikers and bike riders will travel on established loops through the forest and collect playing cards for a poker hand at the end. We will charge an admission fee and prizes will be awarded in several categories at the finish.
